What’s Going on with the Lead Scare?

Since last we spoke of the lead scandal, a number of different organizations have begun their own testing of dental prosthetics. The data that has come in so far suggests the lead scandal may be even bigger than we thought. What’s more, lead has apparently been found in restorations made in the US as well as other countries.

Survey Results: Dental Professional Burnout


Four out of Five Dentists Admit to Getting Burnt Out

When we asked dentists if they’ve ever suffered from professional burnout in their dental careers, a whopping 81% said yes. “If dentists dropped managed care and got better fees for their
hard work, it would reduce burnout significantly,”
said one dentist wistfully. “Get rid of people in the office who drag you down,” offered another. “Sometimes the very best first step is to sell the practice, take a year off, relax, think, and plan new strategies,” advised an implantologist.

Legal News: Dentist Not Liable for Patient’s Poor Dental Health


Jury Finds Negligence Was Patient’s, Not Dentist’s

A Wisconsin dental patient filed a lawsuit against his dentist after his poor dental health lead to a brain infection. The jury found in favor of the dentist, deciding the patient’s own negligence had caused his health problems. The patient’s attorney alleges that the dentist neglected to take whole-mouth
x-rays, but the dentist’s lawyer counters that the patient was advised to see a specialist.
